This Dec. 31 isn’t your garden-variety New Year’s Eve, what with the end of an entire decade and the start of a whole new one. And with your new home in West Villages, you may want to gin up a celebration worth remembering without going out on the town.

Because our award-winning community of nine stunning neighborhoods is built with you in mind, we’ve kept you in mind with our goodie bag of tips for a 2020 bash with friends, neighbors and the little ones.

Theme night. A masquerade ball. An intimate black-tie gala in your family room. Better yet, since you’re in Florida, slip on the flip-flops, a Hawaiian shirt, Bermuda shorts and sunglasses and go full Margaritaville-playful. Theme nights do double-duty—they’re not only fun and easy, they get your guests to planning what they’ll wear.

Go big or …: With resort-style amenities throughout West Villages, plan a party that starts at home and becomes a moveable feast.

Create a Facebook Event page, then plan a big night with your neighbors or HOA. Start with a pool party, thanks to the gorgeous weather here. Then, before the Times Square ball drops on the big screen, meander to the clubhouse. Finally, ring in the New Year with a romantic stroll along the trails or in the parks.

Insta-worthy: You’re worked hard to earn Life Your Way at West Villages. So don’t bust your buttons to pull off a party when you could bust out with simple DIY efforts.

Good Housekeeping suggests, among others, a photo booth, making a simple countdown wall, and filling goodie bags (see below) with handy gifts from the nearby dollar store.

Get your licks from Champagne: Sure, you can toast the New Year with real bubbly, or you can roast it. This site offers recipes for Champagne chicken and Champagne cupcakes. (And since New Year’s Eve can get costly, use sparkling wine; it cooks off anyway.)

Music: We’ve even found two playlists totaling more than two dozen hours of 450 songs. This one rocks with classic faves from Abba to Queen, while this one’s perfect to move your party shakers, with (clean!) contemporary tracks that also sound good in the background.

For the kids (complements of an irresistible list from USAToday):

  • Noon Years Eve: It’s New Years somewhere! Perhaps a family member lives overseas. Gather the family round Skype to see how other countries celebrate. Then, when it’s 12 p.m. at West Villages, drop balloons and let the noisemakers begin.
  • Party bags: Fill ’em up with noisemakers, confetti, crowns, glow sticks, candy, party poppers—and then hire somebody to clean up all that glitter!
  • Finger foods!: Build a pizza-making station or taco bar in your first-class kitchen.
  • Chocolate mockini: Here’s a list of other “cocktails” for the kiddos to toast the promise of even more good times ahead.
