This month, our outdoor movie series is centered around celebrating our beautiful planet. Gather your friends and family and head to the Great Lawn at dusk to enjoy a showing of The Biggest Little Farm! Kick back with food and to-go alcoholic beverages from our Downtown Wellen restaurants and food yard, including popcorn from PopDawgs. Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs and blankets for a comfortable set-up. 

Stop by the booth on the Great Lawn to pick up a complementary sapling tree donated by SunnyGrove Landscaping. Can’t make the event? No problem! Additional saplings will be offered at the Wellen Park Welcome Center on April 22nd from 9 am to 5 pm while supplies last.

Sunday, April 21st

On Sunday, our Fresh Harvest Farmers Market will be in full swing from 9 am to 1 pm in Downtown Wellen. Stop by for fresh fish, produce, flowers, and more. 

Also, enjoy a live performance by the Venice Symphony Brass Choir from 3:30 pm to 5 pm. Sponsored by Capstan Financial, listen to beautiful live music on Wellen Park’s Solis Hall stage. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs, but we prefer that guests leave coolers at home. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from our many Downtown Wellen restaurants. 

Monday, April 22nd

On Earth Day itself, participate in a 2-mile guided bird walk sponsored by the Venice Area Audubon Society! Audubon members, Wellen Park residents, and visitors are all welcome to participate in the walk around Grand Lake. Participants are asked to meet in front of Foxtail Coffee at 8 am.

The walk is a free event for birders of all levels, nature lovers, and those curious about Wellen Park’s wildlife and bird-friendly environment. Registering for the event is encouraged but not required. 

At 6 pm, we’ll be hosting an event on Zoom — Science Talks with Mote — where attendees will be taken on a virtual excursion into Sarasota Bay. Suitable for all ages, sign up for the fun and learn more.

Elise explains, “We figured, why not move to beautiful Florida while we’re young and our kids are young? And we’ve been happy ever since. We’re very happy with our choice of Wellen Park.”

Elise and Joe moved with their four children to the Renaissance neighborhood in 2021. For the Pignatoras, Wellen Park’s location was a huge draw. “We continue to adventure and enjoy everything the area has to offer… The proximity to all of the unique beaches is fantastic. We go on a lot of nature hikes. We’re an active family so we try to always be out and about.”

In addition to the many natural attractions around Wellen Park, the Pignatoras explain that they have found opportunities to explore nearby destinations such as Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Tampa, and of course, Disney World!

Not that they always have to venture far to find fun – their son Luca says, “We usually come to Downtown Wellen every weekend. I go fishing here all the time.” His mom agrees. “We come down here all the time. We like being out and having fun. We always say we’re out on an adventure!”

The Pignatoras all agree that their favorite events at Wellen Park are the weekly concerts, where their three daughters love to dance, sing, and turn cartwheels. On any given day in Downtown, the children can meet up with friends from the community and from school.

The Pignatoras are building a home in EVERLY, one of Wellen Park’s most recent neighborhoods to begin development. In addition to giving the family of six more room to spread out, their new home will be within walking or biking distance to the new K-8 school under development. “We’re excited for the growth. Having the schools right here in Wellen Park is fantastic.” Because of the children’s spread in grades (currently first, fourth, and sixth grades), the combined campus will be an extra benefit, especially as it opens to also include grades 9-12. After all, the Pignatoras aren’t planning on leaving Wellen Park any time soon.  “We’re very excited to be building in Everly because that will be what we deem our forever home.”

When asked how she feels about Wellen Park, Elise sums it up very simply. “It’s everything. We are so grateful. Really, really grateful.”

With 855 sign-ups from 28 states, plus Canada and Mexico, we had a blast watching everyone run, walk, stroll, and participate in the race of the year — even our four-legged friends! Thank you to everyone, from our 3-year-olds to our 87-year-olds, who participated in this year’s half marathon or 5K, and congratulations to the winners of each event.

John is the CEO at Oysters Rock Hospitality. With over 40 years of experience, John is well-known for opening the first Anna Maria Oyster Bar in 1995 which, since then, has expanded to six locations.

Tyler Holt

Tyler is the President at AvSky Jets Inc. where he is dedicated to making aircraft sales and ownership easy for buyers. AvSky has become one of the top aircraft brokerage firms in the world since launching in 2015.

What The App is Used For 

The Wellen Park App is good for many more things than one. Through the app, seamlessly sign up for Downtown Wellen events that require an RSVP, secure your spot for fitness classes, and sign your waiver participation form. Signing up for all Wellen Park events through the app will be the most convenient way to reserve a spot. 

The app also features customized alerts for events that pique the user’s interest. Users can set the app to alert them of upcoming events and provide reminders for events they have already signed up for. 

Furthermore, it will allow the user to make ticket purchases to paid events, see available homes for sale, explore neighborhood amenities, check available dates to rent Solis Hall for your next event, and easily locate and obtain directions to local amenities such as restaurants and shops, trails and pathways, beaches, and more.

How To Use The App

Interested users can visit the Apple and Google Play stores today and search for Wellen Park. Signage will also be displayed throughout Downtown Wellen with QR codes to download the app. 

Residents who may need a bit of coaching on the app are welcome to stop by the Welcome Center with any app-related questions and connect with an ambassador. They are ready to help answer your questions. 

There will be a Workshop Session on February 14th from 12 pm to 1 pm in Solis Hall with a formal presentation on the Wellen Park App. There, users can get hands-on experience and ask any questions they may have.
